For this couple in their mid 60s, moving from a large country house to a London flat was an opportunity to edit rather than start again. Their aim was to bring the character, collections and stories of a well-lived life into a new, more urban setting.

Buying this ground floor Victorian terraced apartment was a way for them to be closer to family, but also to soak up the culture and the energy of London. For this small home, the brief was to create sociability and sanctuary - mixing generous spaces for dinners and gatherings, but also cosy corners for reading, music and retreat.

The approach was very much “less, but better.” Antiques, collected pieces and beautifully made furniture were intended to make the home feel layered and personal rather than overly designed. Warmth and comfort were at the heart of all the design decisions, resulting in an elegant but relaxed interior that felt like it had been collected over time.
