Barn Conversion - Provence

The starting point for this project was the barn itself – an old, characterful building that had been largely untouched for years. The aim was to give it a new purpose without making it feel overly restored or polished, allowing its history, quirks and original features to remain part of its charm.

The idea for the barn was to create somewhere to retreat, relax and spend time together. Upstairs, a bedroom, ensuite and flexible office would provide a quiet escape for working, reading or accommodating guests. Downstairs would have a more sociable feel – somewhere for conversation, music, Scrabble and that last glass of wine after dinner.

The result should feel relaxed, grown-up and unmistakably connected to the original house. Original details, including the wonderful “secret” bread oven, would sit alongside warm, tactile materials and comfortable furnishings. With no TV and no need for it to become a playroom, the focus was simply on creating an inviting place to slow down – cosy in the cooler months, full of character and somewhere you genuinely want to linger.
